Passing of Thomas Foust - School Board Member

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of school board member and great friend to the School District of the City of York, Thomas foustFoust.  Tom passed away in late June after a long battle with cancer.

As with everything that Tom did - his professional work in the community, his more than 10 years serving the district as a member of the school board, his battle with cancer, and more – Tom fought the good fight.  He gave the School District of the City of York the great gift of his effort, his time, and his passion.  Tom believed in public education and believed that a great public education could be found in York.

“Because of all of this and more,” said Superintendent of Schools Sharon Miller, “I truly consider him the ultimate civil servant – a person who took action to improve the welfare of the community and the people in it.  We all hope to make a difference in life - in our communities, in our families, and in our world.  Not all of us, however, take the steps or the responsibility to affect that change.  To be the catalyzing force behind such an enterprise.  To be the one who says, ‘There is a better way to do things,’ and who has the skills and fortitude to make it happen.”  Tom was such a man.

Our deepest condolences and sympathy are extended to Tom’s family and friends at this difficult time.  We will miss him.
