Communities in Schools founder visits McKinley K-8

Posted on September 8th, 2017

Communities in Schools founder Bill Milliken visited York last week to help the United Way of York County kick off its 2017 fundraising campaign.

Mr. Milliken became an advocate for at-risk youth in the 1960s and founded the Communities in Schools program in the 1970s. He led the group as president until 2004.

Mr. Milliken has served three U.S. presidents and received numerous awards for his commitment to young people. Communities in Schools currently serves six schools in the York City School District.

Before speaking at the Appell Center, Mr. Milliken and his wife, Jean, visited McKinley K-8 and met with Principal Danielle Brown and Communities in School site coordinator Alex Kadyszewski.

York City Superintendent Dr. Eric Holmes joined Milliken on a discussion panel after his address to the United Way.
