District to open 14th Pre-K classroom for 2017-18 school year

Posted on August 7th, 2017

Now entering its 11th year, the Pre-K program of the School District of the City of York is proud to announce the opening of a 14th classroom.

The new classroom will be located at the Edgar Fahs Smith STEAM Academy, 701 Texas Ave.

Through a partnership with Community Progress Council, the school district has provided a high-quality Pre-Kindergarten program for York City 4-year-olds since the 2007-08 academic year.

Each classroom has a teacher and an assistant teacher. Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 20 students. Pre-K teachers hold bachelor’s degrees and Pennsylvania Department of Education certificates in early childhood education.  The assistant teachers hold associate’s degrees or a Child Development Associate Certificate.

Pre-K gives children a chance to learn, become excited about school and be better prepared for kindergarten. The research-based curriculum focuses on building children’s social and academic skills.

To register your child for Pre-K, contact Pre-K Secretary Vicki Landis at (717) 849-1398 or landivic@ycs.k12.pa.us. Children must be 4 years old by Aug. 31, 2017 to be eligible. More information is available in the flier below.
