Air conditioning problem cancels summer programs at Hannah Penn on 7/19

Due to an issue with the air-conditioning system at Hannah Penn K-8, the ELL/Migrant Summer program and the KinderCamp program have been canceled for Wednesday, July 19. However, students in SAFE Camp should report to Hannah Penn, as Wednesday's activities have been relocated to a nearby church. We anticipate the air-conditioning problem will be fixed and all programs will resume as normal on Thursday, July 20.

School police officers introduce body cameras

Posted on May 9th, 2017

Starting in May 2017, the school police officers of the York City School District Police Department will wear body cameras as part of their regular uniform while serving the students and staff of our district.

More and more police departments across the country are including body-worn cameras among the tools they use to build trust with the communities they serve. We believe this is a worthwhile endeavor, and the Board of School Directors has endorsed this decision as a meaningful way to hold our school police officers to the very highest professional standards.

We anticipate this may generate some questions among students’ families and our community. The district sent a letter home with students explaining the concept of body cameras, and you can review that letter by clicking here.

We also invite you to review the department policy that describes the cameras’ proper purpose and use.

If you have questions about the body cameras or the department policy, please contact Information Specialist Erin James at
