Details About William Penn Senior High School Evacuation

Details about response to accident involving district school bus

This morning, a bus transporting students from William Penn Senior High School to the Edgar Fahs Smith STEAM Academy was involved in an accident. Six students were transported to the hospital for assessment of possible injuries. As of 3 p.m., each of the students had been treated and released from the hospital. The driver of the school bus was also transported to the hospital. All other students on the bus were evaluated by school nurses.

The school district contacted parents of the affected students and will report more information to the public when it is available. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. We appreciate the community’s support and patience as we continue to investigate.

Shining Star Teachers celebrated for exceeding academic growth standards

Posted on December 11th, 2018

At the School District of the City of York, we believe that all students can learn and that high-quality instruction is the key to unlocking student potential.

Recently released 2017-18 standardized testing data confirm for the second consecutive year that the School District of the City of York is fulfilling its mission to improve student academic achievement through the implementation of the most ambitious recovery plan in Pennsylvania history.

According to the Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment (PVAAS) – a measure of student academic growth released by the Pennsylvania Department of Education – York City students throughout the district in grades 4-8 exceeded the standard for PA Academic Growth in both English Language Arts and Math. At the high school level, students exceeded the standard in Algebra and met the standard in Literature.

These results are significant because they indicate the district’s efforts to improve student achievement are working.

On Dec. 6, the school district celebrated the hard work and success of its instructional staff by honoring 35 “Shining Star” teachers whose students exceeded academic growth expectations in 2018. This celebration was an opportunity to reinforce the district’s focus on academic growth as a measure of success in the classroom and the district’s commitment to high-quality instruction for all students.

Each of the 35 teachers was presented with a personalized award and a letter of congratulations from Gov. Tom Wolf.
