STEAM Academy students organize supply drive for Hurricane Harvey victims

Posted on August 31st, 2017

Students at the Edgar Fahs Smith STEAM Academy have organized a supply drive for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, and they’re inviting the community to help.

The 5th and 6th graders in Ms. Lindsay Kaltreider’s class will collect donations at the school, 701 Texas Ave. in York, between now and Thursday, Sept. 7. Everything donated will travel the following day to the Houston, Texas area on a bus from Bailey Coach Trailways.

The students brainstormed ideas about what someone who has been displaced from their home might need. Then, they designed posters advertising the supply drive that they hope to place around the community.

STEAM Academy 7th and 8th graders are also going to help by sorting and organizing the donated items.

Suggested donations include: hygiene items (deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, soap, hair brushes, feminine care), baby items (diapers, wipes, formula, bottles), non-perishable food, towels and washcloths, blankets and bottled water.

Please check out this video from the York Daily Record that shows STEAM students working together to help people in need:
