The York City School District in partnership with Community Progress Council (CPC) offers pre-kindergarten children living in the district an opportunity to attend our Pre-K Counts program.
Pre-K Counts is free to families in York City!
Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts provides high quality pre-kindergarten to children in Pennsylvania. York City Schools is proud to be a recipient of the Pre-K Counts grant. Our classrooms are staffed by highly qualified teachers from Community Progress Council, Inc.
Each elementary school in the district has one Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts classroom. Small class size ensures that teachers have plenty of one on one time with students to help them grow academically and socially. This will help to ensure the child's readiness for kindergarten.
Eligible children must be 4 years of age by August 31, 2013 and be a resident of York City. All immunizations must also be current.

Students from Devers Pre K listen to a story during their fall festivities
Miss Johnson and Miss Fetter are the teachers in the Pre-K Counts class at Devers Elementary. Recently their class has been learning about the season of winter and bears and penguins. Some winter activities they did included having ice in the water table to explore, a "letter" snowball toss and playing with snow. Their dramatic play center was turned into a Winter House. In the block center students made snow forts and snow castles. The students also got to make snow paintings with shaving cream and glue.
Students learned about three types of bears and turned their block area into bear caves where they pretended to hibernate for the winter.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about the different types of penguins and their habitats. They made penguin handprints and played penguin trivia. As a culminating activity for the three themes students had a White Party and everyone wore something white. As you can see in the photos, a good time was had by all.
Thanks Miss Johnson and Miss Fetter
