McKinley Hosts Genius Hour

Posted on March 10th, 2016

A group of 7th and 8th grade students are meeting every afternoon at McKinley for “Genius Hour” to work on projects they’ve chosen. The idea was inspired by Google, where employees are given 20 percent of their work time to pursue personal projects (Gmail was created by this process).

This student, Luis Montalvo, is developing an app for managing type 1 diabetes. Montalvo, an 8th grader, said he’d like to be a doctor when he grows up.

Devers Flag Flying Thanks to Firefighters

Posted on March 10th, 2016

The light on the flagpole at Devers recently broke, which meant that the school wasn’t able to fly its flag at all. The school’s generous neighbors donated a new light and the awesome York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services stepped in to complete the task.

It really does take a village. A huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Waughtel for making sure Devers could fly its flag with pride.
