    Thank you very much for your support of the School District of the City of York (SDCY) and the students and families that we serve. Your coverage is appreciated, and it is our goal to assist you with your job by providing timely and accurate information about the district. We believe in transparency and open, honest communication. We would like to take this opportunity to share the district’s media relations guidelines with you:

    As a local public school system, the School District of the City of York recognizes the importance of providing accurate and relevant information to our students, staff, and community. Please read all the information below regarding media inquiries, and we will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

    The preferable method for requests would be to contact the Communications Coordinator via email. Please find below a suggested format for inquiries:

    Subject: topic of requested information

    Body of Email to include:

    • Reporter’s Name
    • Reporter’s Phone Number
    • Reporter’s Email
    • Story Deadline (if applicable)
    • Questions you plan to ask 

    Media Guidelines

    The School District of the City of York is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and positive learning environment with clear academic goals and high expectations for all of our students. We take the safety and privacy of our students, teachers, and all District personnel very seriously.

    The School District of the City of York will make every reasonable effort to provide information which is a matter of public record to media outlets when and if it becomes available and is in compliance with State and Federal law, specifically but not limited to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), both of which can be accessed at the U.S. Department of Education website at www.ed.gov

    Members of the media should contact the Communications Coordinator before coming on to school property.

    Faces and recognizable images of a person under the age of 18 may not be published or broadcast without the written consent of a parent/guardian.

    All requests for information including, but not limited to interviews, photos, statements, and statistics, should be directed to the Communications Coordinator (via email using the above-requested information format), who will contact the appropriate spokesperson and/or provide public information when and if it is available.

    In the event that any incident involves a formal investigation, the School District of the City of York will defer all comments to the investigating agency, including but not limited to, local, state and federal law enforcement, and fire departments. In addition, the School District of the City of York does not provide comment to the media regarding any active litigation.

SHARE YOUR #BearcatPride NEWS (STAFF ONLY)

  • Below you will find a link to share your Bearcat Pride News Form which invites you to share all the amazing things happening in your classrooms and buildings. You may submit photos, videos and flyers. The Communications Coordinator will check the submissions daily and determine where to broadcast the pictures, either on our district social media accounts or on the district website. 

    You must be logged into your SDCY Google account to submit information (@yorkbearcats.org). 

    If you have any questions, or if your file is too large to upload with the Google form, please contact Communications Coordinator Khera Bowman.

    *PLEASE make sure all students in photos have their signed consent form to have photos taken. PLEASE check with your office manager to run the report for your classroom if you are unsure.
