Dear SDCY Families,

We take seriously any information shared with us regarding potential threats to our school community. Earlier today (September 19), we learned of several messages circulating on social media related to unspecified threats of violence. Schools throughout York County and the state have been made aware of similar messages.

We want to clarify that this was not a specific threat against our schools, nor have we received any direct threats toward our district. In addition, we are aware of a local unrelated photo circulating social media. While this photo may be concerning, there has been no direct threat to our school community. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff, the following precautions have been implemented:

  • Increased Police Support: There will be additional police presence during student intake and dismissal times.

  • School Officers: Mobile patrols will be conducted district-wide.

  • Recess Policy: Outdoor recess will be suspended today

As is often the case with such social media posts, the initial message has resulted in rumors and the spreading of inaccurate information, which understandably creates anxiety and fear. If you or your child become aware of any potential threat, whether posted to social media or communicated elsewhere, please notify a school staff member or trusted adult immediately. The Safe2Say Something Hotline (1-844-723-2729) is also available for reporting suspicious behavior, or you can submit a report online at www.safe2saypa.org. By reporting these concerns, we can work together to ensure they are properly investigated and addressed.

In addition to reporting concerns, we encourage you to talk with your students about their use of social media and the importance of responsible behavior online. Please remind them that making false threats is a serious crime and can result in severe consequences.

If there are any updates to this situation, we will communicate them directly with families via our district website. While today’s post does not pose an immediate threat to our schools, we take our responsibility to protect our community very seriously.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.

Sincerely,

SDCY Administration
