On May 30, 2024, 5th grade students at STEAM installed their pollinator hotels. As part of their Photography Artist in Residence Program through the Cultural Alliance, these students practiced photographing life cycles of insects. Students will then use the skills that they learned to take action as community scientists through the Native Bee Community Science Project. https://www.planetbee.org/community-science
When students return in the Fall, they will observe, document, and report data about the native bees that build nests in their pollinator hotels. Students will upload data and photos to the Planet Bee Foundation. This data will be shared with researchers, farmers, students, and industry professionals. Students will also use this information to research, plan, and create a native pollinator garden. You can follow their progress on the Planet Bee Foundation Community Science website.
