Our new Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Portia Slaughter recently visited both of our Family First Health School-Based Health Centers located at William Penn Senior High School and Hannah Penn PreK-8.

Last evening, our District Parent Liaisons hosted their first parent and family engagement event of the school year! Our students and families enjoyed an evening of friendly competition, making connections, and learning about our district’s Title I Program.

We are excited for the many more great family engagement events that will be hosted throughout the school year!

Our William Penn Senior High School students officially started classes in the new Early Childhood Education Pre-Apprenticeship Program!

Through this exciting opportunity, students can earn college credits through HACC, gain paid hands-on experience in PreK Counts classrooms, and work toward their Child Development Associate credentials while in high school.

This opportunity was made possible through a grant from the Rotary Club of York to Community Connections for Children as part of the Every Child Has Opportunities Initiative.

We can't wait to watch our future educators grow!

A group of students from the William Penn STEAM Academy are leading a project this school year entitled, Food for Thought, which is an initiative designed to improve community engagement. As part of this project, students are collecting and analyzing data through a survey within the community.

This past Friday, our York High Boys Varsity Football team kicked off the season with a hard-fought game against the Harrisburg Cougars. Our Bearcat athletes showed determination, teamwork, resilience, and #BearcatPride🐾 from start to finish!

We’re proud of the effort, energy, and commitment they brought to the field and look forward to all that this team will accomplish throughout the season!

Learning in Action: Making Science Come Alive! 🔍

Ms. Bailey’s class at McKinley PreK-8 is diving into Physical Science: Unit 1 Investigating Matter! Students are exploring the essential question: “Is all matter the same?” as they learn to classify matter as a solid, liquid, or gas.

When students wondered, “Is sand a solid or a liquid?” they got hands-on with kinetic sand to investigate and decide for themselves!

Nothing makes learning come alive like asking questions, exploring, and discovering the answer through experience! 💡
