A group of WPSHS seniors recently attended the York City Dollars for Scholars event that was held at the high school. These students were given the opportunity to begin their scholarship applications to their preferred college or university. They also participated in a small Q & A discussion with former WPSHS students who are currently enrolled in a college or university.

The GIANT Company is partnering with our district to fight childhood hunger!
Now through March 31st, shop at GIANT Food Store (#6294, 1255 Carlisle Rd, York, PA) and "Round Up at the Register" to support our school district's food services program.
Bearcats, help spread the word and support efforts to address food insecurity in our schools!

We are thrilled to highlight the Bearcat Casual Club that has recently opened at WPSHS. Bearcat Casual is a small school thrift store that is led by a group of our high school students every week. Students are able to purchase new and/or gently used clothes by using their LiveSchool points in which they earn by demonstrating their commitment to being great learners.

Attention Bearcat Families:
There will be no school on Monday, January 6th for all students, teachers and 10-month employees due to pending inclement weather. All 12-month employees will still report to their building or use accrued leave if needed. All students, teachers and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 7th. Please be advised there will now be school on March 17th which is a board-approved weather make-up day. Thank you.



Yesterday, several staff members engaged in powerful discussions on equity and inclusion during a professional development session led by the Racial Justice Committee of YWCA York and inspired by Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools. Together, they reflected, learned, and planned for change.


WPSHS recently celebrated Instant Decision Day at the high school, where some of our seniors received admissions from several colleges and universities on the spot, in addition to receiving scholarships. Congratulations Bearcats! 🧡💙

Our Davis PreK-8 students had the opportunity to participate in a Holiday Sing-Along today that was led by Mrs. Traci Garr. Commissioner Michael Muldrow and Santa Claus also stopped by to wish our Bearcats a happy holiday break.

William Penn Senior High School took center stage at our School Board meeting last evening with a fantastic presentation, showcasing what makes their school special, sharing data, and highlighting student and staff support. To start off the presentation, some of our William Penn students from our Best Buddies club, led by Ms. Kristen Ostrom, shared highlights about their club with the Board and Central Administration staff.
A special moment of the evening was the presentation of the Celebrating Families Award to Flamond Rowland, who exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated partner in education.

Bearcat Families: This is a reminder that tomorrow, December 20, 2024, will be an early dismissal for all students. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM and will complete asynchronous assignments the remainder portion of the school day.



Penn State University of York recently visited Ms. Funk's Horticulture classroom at the high school to work with the students on dissecting ticks for their pesticide unit. The Horticulture program teaches students how to cultivate and manage various types of plants. #BearcatPride🐾










We are proud to announce that Yury Hernandez (10th grade/Flute), Manuel Garcia (10th grade/Tenor Sax), Francisco Soto (10th grade/Trumpet), and Sha'Nyah Spencer (11th grade/Clarinet) were selected and will represent William Penn Senior High School and the entire district in the upcoming Annual York County High School Honors Band Festival. These musicians will join approximately 142 other 9th-12th grade band students representing 19 schools and school districts across York County. Congratulations Bearcats and best of luck! 🐾

The William Penn Singers and Light Up Ensemble, led by Ms. Ellen Ditmer and Mr. Kevin Crawmer, put on a wonderful performance today for our Central Administration staff during their Annual Holiday Sharing Tour. Great job Bearcats! 🐾

Earlier today, several students in grades 9-12 received certificates and were recognized for being Students of the Month, making honor roll, and having perfect attendance for the first marking period. Congratulations Bearcats! 🐾










Some of our Freshman Academy students at William Penn Senior High School were recognized today for receiving honors (distinguished honor roll, high honor roll, and honor roll) as well as having perfect attendance for the first marking period. Students who were selected by their teachers for showing their Bearcat P.R.I.D.E. throughout the marking period were also recognized. Congratulations to Ms. Vanessa Werner on receiving the Freshman Academy Teacher Award!

We're thrilled to announce that two members of the William Penn SHS DECA team is heading to the State Competition! DECA is a business club that is taught by Ms. Melanie Wilson at the high school where students are given the opportunity to learn about marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship. Yesterday, a group of our outstanding William Penn students represented the School District of the City of York at York College, with Alexa Pimental Rosario and Eladia Sandel securing our team’s spot at the state level.
